1. Exterior Styling
J.D. Power data shows that a third of new car buyers won’t even consider a specific model if they don’t like the exterior styling.
People will also walk away from their favorite model if it doesn’t come in the color they want. According to a Consumer Reports, as many as 40 percent of shoppers will choose something else.
Styling is one of the biggest reasons people buy the vehicle they drive.
2. Price
Some people are price and budget conscious, others just have love for cars.
Some people buying their cars thinking with their mind, others with their heart.
Although tall of these are true, just 38 percent of new car buyers say that a vehicle’s price or the monthly payment is one of the main reasons that they choose a specific make and model of vehicle.
3. Fuel Economy
In the last decade the fuel economy grew into something big, something people talking about.
It is a thing.
It is the most important for a good percentage of the car buyers.
However, as long as the price of the fuel remains low, the percentage of the population citing fuel economy as one of the most important reasons for buying a specific vehicle (37 percent in the most recent J.D. Power survey), will remain relatively low.
4. Reputation
According to J.D. Power 40 percent of new vehicle buyers consider a vehicle’s reputation and reviews as a primary consideration when deciding which make and model to purchase.
It is very important for many people, what badge your car wear. It tells something about you, about your lifestyle, your potential, aspiration, dreams.
For some cars are like the luxury wearable thing on your hand...some have Rolex, some have Casio.
If you drive home in a new Honda Accord, you don’t need to explain that purchase to your network of family, friends, and co-workers. If you drive home in a new Mercedes SLK, you do.
5. Previous brand experience
"Robert has been driving Toyota Corolla for 30 years. He buys one. He puts 100,000 miles on it. He trades it in for a new one. Every five years, his local Toyota dealer does another deal with him."
This is how it works.
A big part of the buyers just want to stick with the brand they choose the first time. Why? Probably they would tell you the reason why they are keep buying the same car, but the truth is, that being comfortable, don't have to do any other research, dealing with another brand service department has a big factor in their decision making. People are lazy in a way, and that is how a reliable car brand can keep loyal customers for long.
6. Expected Reliability
More than any other car research website, Consumer Reports is the most frequently consulted publication by people who are planning to buy a new car, according to J.D. Power surveys. Given that vehicle reliability is cited by half of all new car buyers as one of the most important reasons they chose their vehicle, this is not a surprise.
The truth is that some brands are just making reliable cars more, while others are not..really.
Take Acura, Honda or Toyota. There is a reason why people are going back to their dealerships year by year, generations by generations.
My friend drove his Nissan compact sedan for 600000 miles, without any headache or major service issue.
These are important factors to consider folks.
